The festive fundraising activity, which will take place on 10th December, is an enjoyable 5k walk around Whitchurch that will also include an evening full of Christmas activities and entertainment.

Individuals of all ages are welcome to register for the walk online or can arrive on the day to sign up. The walk is free to enter but donations will be gratefully received and will be in aid of City Hospice.

As well as the Cardiff by Candlelight walk, individuals can shop for beautiful handcrafted gifts at the craft fayre, listen to music from ReChoir and the Tongwynlais Temperance Band to get into the festive spirit and fill up on food with a BBQ, mince pies and mulled wine all available. Children will also have the chance to meet Father Christmas and have their pictures taken with him. There will be a small fee to meet Santa, which will include a gift for the child.

Mike Walsh, Chief Executive at City Hospice, said: “We are very excited for Cardiff by Candlelight and the 5k walk. It will be a great family event that will bring together the community and get everyone in the Christmas spirit. People of all ages can join in the fun and know they are supporting a great cause.”

Organisers have set a target of £10,000 to raise at the event, which will help pay for 500 hours of nursing care at the City Hospice centre. All money raised at the event will also be match funded by the Hodge Foundation, as part of City Hospice’s Light up a Life appeal – a campaign that allows people to remember a loved one by lighting a candle in their memory.

The Cardiff by Candlelight event is on Sunday, 10th December and will begin at City Hospice, Grounds of Whitchurch Hospital at 4pm. There will be an opening event and the walk will set off at 5pm. The route will take individuals around the village on Merthyr Road.

City Hospice, which was formerly known as George Thomas Hospice Care, is Cardiff’s local hospice and cares for patients and families across the city who have been diagnosed with cancer or a life limiting condition.
