Welsh Hearts will be launching their City of Hearts Appeal on November 14. As part of this appeal the charity will be working alongside business owners and communities to place 500 public access defibrillators throughout Cardiff as well as continuing to provide free CPR training.
To celebrate the launch of the City of Hearts Appeal Welsh Hearts will be hosting a race night at The City Arms in Cardiff. The event is being supported by local businesses, as well as support from betting giant Paddy Power. The City Arms is also set to be the site of the first defibrillator placed using funds raised through the appeal.
To date, the charity has placed 1,743 defibrillators across Wales, trained over 58,000 people in CPR and defibrillator use, and screened over 3,406 young hearts. The charity’s mission is to make sure there is a defibrillator on every street corner, so no person is ever further than 100 metres away from a lifesaving device.
Since 2013, Welsh Hearts has played a leading role in improving heart health in Wales. Currently, one-third of all deaths in Wales are the result of cardiovascular disease.
Sharon Owen, Charity Director said: “Since the charity was set up in 2013, I’m so proud of how much we have achieved. As a really small charity run predominantly by volunteers, we are dedicated to improving the health of communities throughout Wales.
“The City of Hearts Appeal is a really important one to us as it will help us continue this work whilst also raising awareness of the importance of heart health and how having access to a defibrillator can save lives.”
